Market figures by town

The median living area for homes sold in Killeen has shrunk to 1,612 square feet, down from 1,618 square feet the previous month and 1,664 square feet a year ago. This shift reflects a change in what buyers are closing on, with smaller floor plans accounting for a larger share of the 36 closed sales recorded in September. ALEX Intelligence analyzed the rolling trend across 24 months of data to identify this size-band shift. While the median price rose slightly by 1.1% compared to August, the average square footage per home has declined by 0.4% month-over-month and 3.1% year-over-year. This suggests that buyers in the current market are prioritizing other factors over total living space, or that new construction and resale inventory is increasingly featuring more compact layouts. The data shows a clear pattern where homes under 1,700 square feet are driving the median. In September, the typical home sold was smaller than it was in August and significantly smaller than the typical home sold in September 2025. This trend continues as the market adjusts to current inventory levels and buyer preferences for lower maintenance or entry-level pricing points within the city limits. The analysis covers all closed sales in Killeen during the reporting window, providing a snapshot of how home dimensions are evolving in this segment of the Austin metro area. Shopping in Killeen?
