Apply as a student
Free training, a personal mentor, and a subject-matter expert for every class.
Everything except your name, your email and the adult
confirmation is optional. We ask nothing about your background, your neighborhood,
your school or your date of birth, and there is nowhere in our database to put such
an answer.
Become a mentor
One to ten students, for the length of their program.
Volunteers are screened. Students
will rely on what you tell us, so we check it — we read your LinkedIn, and we may
follow up before confirming you. Please answer the experience questions properly rather
than briefly. We still ask nothing about your background, your neighborhood, your
school or your date of birth, and there is nowhere in our database to put such an
answer.

Who you are
Full name Required.
What you like to be called Optional.
Email Required. This is how we answer.
Mobile phone Required. This is how we reach you about
scheduling. We only use it for the channels you tick further down.
I cannot give a mobile number.
Tell us why, and how to reach you instead
No mobile, a shared phone, a number that cannot receive
texts — whatever the situation is. It does not count against your
application; we just need a way to contact you.
LinkedIn profile This is the professional record
we review. Please give it even if it is out of date.
Anything your LinkedIn does not show
If your employment or experience is not current there, tell us
here instead. Recent roles, work that is not public, anything we would otherwise
miss.
Time zone So we do not schedule you at 4am.

I am 18 or older. Required — the program is for adults, and this
box is the whole age check. We do not ask for your date of birth.
What you bring
We are not asking for a subject specialism. Every class has a
subject-matter expert; a mentor is the named person who stays with one student
across the whole program, knows their work and answers directly. What matters
here is how much you can take on and whether you will still be there in month
six.
Hours a week you can give
How many students at once
Slide to set it. The estimate below is our best guess at the
load — about 3 hours per student in their first month, about 2 hours per
student every month after. Nobody has run a cohort yet, so treat these as
estimates, not measurements.
1 5 10
More than 10? Let’s talk before
you commit. We would rather find that out now than in week six.
Why you want to do this
This is the question we actually read.
What happens next
Expect a brief phone interview with the Institute
President or an Officer before you are confirmed. It is short, and it is the real
screen — a form cannot tell us whether someone will still be there in month
six, and a conversation can.
How we may contact you
We contact you only on the channels ticked here, and only about
the Institute. Untick or tick whatever you like — either way it is recorded
as your answer, not as silence. You can withdraw any of these later by replying to
us; the withdrawal is kept alongside the original permission, so the record of what
you agreed to never disappears.

Video messages by email — a short recorded message instead of a wall of text.
ALEX Institute text messages — class reminders and short scheduling notes.

Which classes you can support
Tick any section you could support and its courses open up; tick a
course and it asks three short questions. There is no limit —
claim as many sections and courses as you are comfortable with, and none that you are
not. Most people are deep in one or two and lighter elsewhere, and we would rather see
that honestly than have it averaged into a single number.
What the role is
You answer questions. When a student is stuck on
something in a course you claimed, they reach you and you help them past it. That is
the whole role, and answering questions is the role rather than an option —
so there is no box to tick for it.
You are not marking coursework. Every course you could support is a Google, IBM or NVIDIA
course, and those providers grade their own coursework and issue their own
completions — so there is nothing here for you to mark.
I would also speak to a cohort. Optional
— a single session on something you know well.

First — the one condition
Every session is recorded and published. The
recording and transcript become a blog Q&A so students who could not attend
live still get it, and so the answer outlives the hour. That is the whole point of
the format, and it is not optional.
Yes — record my session and publish it. You may publish
the recording, the transcript and my answers to students and on the Institute
blog.
Unticking this ends the application. We are grateful for the offer either way,
but we are not able to host sessions we cannot publish — please do not
spend time on the rest of the form.

the event page — whatever exists. A first-time speaker with the right
subject is still worth booking, so leave it blank if there is nothing.

What the session is
The Institute Q&A. It is an interview, not a
lecture. Someone from the Institute hosts and asks you questions; you do not need
slides and you do not need to prepare a talk.
Before — students submit questions on the session page
and upvote each other’s. Your host arrives with a ranked list, so you will
know roughly what is coming.
During — the audience is muted. Students raise a hand,
send a text question, or upvote one already in the queue. Nobody
interrupts you : every question reaches you through the host.
After — the recording and transcript become a blog Q&A
so students who could not attend still get it.
One thing we ask of you afterwards: questions the clock beat
get a short written answer from you on the post. We promise students that
missing the session does not cost them their question, and you are the person who
keeps that promise. It is usually two or three replies.
I would like to open with a short presentation.
Optional. Ten minutes
maximum — enough for eight to twelve slides saying what you do and
why it matters, leaving thirty-five minutes for questions. Students ask better
questions when they know what you actually do, but the questions are the point.
Many speakers skip this and open straight into the Q&A.
Comments are moderated.
Questions and comments on your session are reviewed before and after it goes up. A
removed comment is hidden and kept on record, never silently deleted, so moderation
is auditable. You will not be left to handle a hostile thread alone.

Become a Member of the Completion Project Advisory Council
Provide independent guidance on what the Completion Project teaches, who it serves, and whether people are actually finishing.
Advisors are screened. The Institute will
act on what the Completion Project Advisory Council tells it, so we check who is on it — we read your LinkedIn,
and we talk with you before any invitation. We still ask nothing about your background,
your neighborhood, your school or your date of birth, and there is nowhere in our database
to put such an answer.

Where you would advise
Tick every area where your judgement is worth having. There is no

ticks than five polite ones.
Curriculum — which courses belong in the program, and

Completion and student support — why people stop, and
what keeps them going.
Employers and hiring — whether what students finish
is what employers actually hire for.
Responsible AI and ethics — the standard the Institute
holds its own teaching to.
Governance, operations and funding — how a free program
stays free and stays accountable.
What you bring

Boards or councils you have served on
Optional. A first-time advisor with the right experience is
still worth hearing from.

Anything that could be a conflict of interest
Optional. An employer, a course provider, a vendor you work
with. Declaring one does not rule you out; it lets us manage it in the open.
What happens next
Expect a conversation with the Institute President
before any invitation. Seats on the Completion Project Advisory Council are offered after that conversation, not by
this form — it tells us who to call.
