Can quantum error mitigation function without direct control over every qubit? A new study published in IEEE Access today confirms it can. The authors show that zero-noise extrapolation (ZNE)—a widely used error mitigation strategy—can be adapted in indirect-control systems by exploiting physical symmetries, like those in a 1D XY spin chain. This breakthrough suggests that scalable quantum computation may not require full hardware control, reducing complexity and noise.
