A new study from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign shows that recovery capital (housing, support, mental health) increases remission probability by 8–11 percentage points — but only when genetic risk is low. The effect is nonlinear: those with high genetic risk and low recovery capital have the worst outcomes. This mirrors agtech: a genetically resilient crop still fails without soil health and water. AI models must stop treating biology and environment as separate. They must learn to model thresholds, saturation, and interaction effects.
