AgTech AI Council

What if the next breakthrough in AgTech AI isn’t a smarter algorithm — but a smarter design that works when everything else fails? Today’s story from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign shows how a kirigami-inspired wheelchair design, built from laser-cut sheet metal and assembled in hours, enabled Armenia’s first-ever wheelchair rugby match — despite customs delays, no manuals, and a 90-degree gym. The real win? Eight athletes, zero prior experience, and one shared moment of triumph. This is not just adaptive sports — it’s a model for global AgTech resilience. The design’s modularity, local manufacturability, and rapid deployment offer a blueprint for AI-driven tools in low-resource farming zones. How can we apply this ‘assemble-on-site’ ethos to soil sensors, drone parts, or irrigation controllers? Let’s discuss.
